How They Work
If you've ever worn foam or any other generic earplugs to a concert or on a gig, you know that they can affect sound quality and your listening enjoyment to a great extent. This is due to the extensive high frequency attenuation typically provided by these plugs. Custom fit Musicians Earplugs (TM) offer high fidelity custom hearing protection Sound quality is clear and natural, not muffled and noise fatigue is reduced. Designed by Etymotic Research, Musicians Earplugs are designed to replicate the natural response of the open ear. Sound heard with these earplugs has the same quality as the original, only quieter. Accurate sound reduction is achieved by combining a patented filter with the specific acoustics of a custom earmold. The combination of the two produces a resonance at approximately 2700 Hz (as in the normal ear) resulting in a smooth, flat attenuation. Three types of attenuator buttons are available: ER·9, ER·15 and ER·25. Custom Fit ER-Series Earplugs
The custom ER series earplugs are created for your individual ear to ensure an adequate seal is created - in addition to being incredibly comfortable and secure.

ER-Series Filters
Three types of attenuator buttons are available: ER•9, ER•15 and ER•25. The number corresponds with the amount of sound reduction provided in dB. Filters can be used with custom ER series earplugs (see above):
ER•9
Provides 9 dB flat sound reduction through the mid range, with the same high-frequency attenuation as the ER•15.
ER•15
The first Musicians' Earplug™; the standard from which all other ER attenuators were designed. Provides uniform 15 dB sound reduction across frequencies.
ER•25
Provides 25 dB of relatively flat attenuation across frequencies.
ETY-Plugs(Etymotic ER-20 Standard High Fidelity Earplugs)
ETY-PlugsTM (ER-20TM High Fidelity Earplugs) provide low-cost, one-size-fits-most high fidelity earplugs that can be used in a variety of noisy environments. The goal of the ETY-PlugsTM design was the same as for Musicians Earplugs: to reduce noise but preserve sound quality; in effect, to turn down the noise but not muffle voices, environment sounds or music.

The Etymotic BabyBlues provide low-cost, high fidelity earplugs for smaller ear canals that can be used in a variety of noisy environments. The goal of the BabyBlues' design was the same as for Musician Earplugs: to reduce noise but preserve sound quality; in effect, to turn down the noise but not muffle voices, environmental sounds or music.
